Welcome to the website of Swimmer One. We are from Scotland and we make music, among other things. If you’d like semi-regular updates on what we’re up to, type your email under the subscribe box on this page. Or just click on the RSS feed link below.
If you’ve stumbled across this site by chance and don’t know who we are, begin your visit at our biog. Otherwise, here are the latest headlines. Or you can read our weekly blog, updated every Sunday, here.
Movie news. If you’re going to see Spread at the Edinburgh International Film Festival next week, listen out for the Swimmer One song But My Heart is Broken (from our album The Regional Variations), which features in the movie.
Spread is directed by David Mackenzie (Young Adam, Hallam Foe, The Last Great Wilderness) and stars Ashton Kutcher as an American Gigolo-type figure who seduces older women to pay the rent. It’s showing on 22 and 24 June. If you can’t make it to Edinburgh, the film should be in cinemas everywhere else later in the year.
You can read more about the film here.
Three bits of news that might be of interest to fans of our song Largs Hum.
1. Our next live show is in Largs. Sort of. Specifically, it’s at the Garden Party festival at Kelburn Castle and Country Park, on Saturday 20 June. It’s a beautiful place, and should be a great festival. Found, James Yorkston, The Aliens, The Bays and lots of other people we like are playing too. You should come. Book your tickets here. Early bird tickets are cheaper.
2. A London band called The New Royal Family have recorded a very funny spoof of Largs Hum, called Scotland the Brave. You can listen to it at their MySpace page.
3. Oh look, the BBC did a story about the Hum today. And what was that music soundtracking their report? Yep, it was Largs Hum.
SATURDAY 9 MAY - Sneaky Pete’s, Cowgate, Edinburgh. Our first show at a cool new music venue, at a night with the charming title of Manky Bastard. Luxury Car and Lions Chase Tigers are playing too. See www.myspace.com/mbconcerts for more.
THURSDAY 14 MAY - Carnegie Hall, East Port, Dunfermline. Swimmer One play the annual Tigerfest extravaganza in the distinguished company of Found and Cruiser. Full festival listings here.
Look, here’s us on stage at the Caves in Edinburgh a few months ago, playing a song from our new album, out later this year. Andrew is still wishing he hadn’t worn those trousers. (The song is called This Club Is For Everybody, Even You, by the way, not This Club is For Everyone. We didn’t write the caption)
At last, we are going to perform our song Largs Hum in Largs - or rather just outside it. In June, we can announce, we will play brand new festival The Garden Party, at Kelburn Castle in Largs, along with The Bays, James Yorkston, Found, A Band Called Quinn and many more. There’s a full list of acts at the festival website.
THURSDAY 19 MARCH - The Buff Club, Bath Lane, Glasgow. Swimmer One are guests of A Band Called Quinn at the launch of their excellent new album. There will be cabaret performers too. It’ll be a lot of fun. You can buy advance tickets at www.tickets-scotland.com.
THURSDAY 14 MAY - Carnegie Hall, East Port, Dunfermline. Swimmer One play the annual Tigerfest extravaganza in the distinguished company of Found and Cruiser.
Hope to see you there. More shows to be announced soonish.
