Films

Edinburgh artist Daniel Warren, who designed the sleeve artwork for all of Swimmer One’s releases to date, has also made five short films featuring Swimmer One music, which you can watch via the links below. Daniel also worked with Hamish on the film Public Private, commissioned by Scottish Ballet and the National Galleries of Scotland.

You can find more films by Daniel Warren, including extracts from Public Private, at his YouTube page. You can find some of his photography, including location shots from his films, at his Flickr page.

While Daniel is our main collaborator, he is not the only person to have made films using Swimmer One’s music. Others include:

Paul Cameron, who made a fantastic piece of animation for Music For Other People, a remix of the Swimmer One single We Just Make Music For Ourselves. We have screened Paul’s film at live shows; you can watch it online here.

Ben Ewart-Dean, who was inspired by our song Largs Hum to visit Largs and investigate the hum for himself. While in Largs he made this film.

Film: The Balance Company

A proper pop video to accompany The Balance Company, the first single to be taken from our album The Regional Variations, made with Daniel Warren and the theatre company Highway Diner.

Film: Music For Other People

Music For Other People is the second piece of work to come out of the Dance Base project. The usual hierarchy between different types of movement is suspended in this film as both dance and banality are treated equally in the choreography of the editing process.

Film: Lake Tahoe

This film was made by Daniel Warren in 2005. It uses stop-frame to create the effect. The locations are London, Somewhere Else and the amazing beach at Uig Sands on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. The distance between high and low tide is about a kilometre. I visited near midsummer a couple of years ago - light enought to take photographs without a flash at 11pm - one of the most amazing places I have ever been - Hamish.
