The ongoing activities of Mr Bill Drummond
A few years ago, I met Bill Drummond at the CCA in Glasgow. At the time he was travelling around the UK selling tiny pieces of a Richard Long photograph. I gave him a toy sheep with a note that said ‘Swimmer One have entered the music industry’. I like to think he would have appreciated the gesture, although perhaps he just thought I was an idiot.
Anyway, he continues to be a constant source of, at best, inspiration and, at least, amusement. Which is why I am a frequent visitor to his website.
I am a little perturbed by his current idea, that ‘all recorded music has run its course’, since I sort of find myself agreeing with him, artistically. But we have also recorded a second album which we haven’t released yet. And we think it’s really good.
